About Burlington Small Fry Skating

small fry skating burlington ontarioBurlington Small Fry Skating (BSFS) is a not-for-profit volunteer program designed to teach preschoolers 3 – 6 years of age how to skate and the basics of hockey.

The BSFS program has been running out of Central Arena since 1950 and moved to Appleby Ice Centre in 2012. The success of the program is directly linked to the commitment of our parent/caregiver volunteers. Their commitment allows BSFS to offer affordable fees, more ice-time and parent participation.

Important Information About Burlington Small Fry Skating

  • All programs and special events are held at Appleby Arena.
  • All skaters must wear a CSA approved helmet with face shield or cage.
  • Only single blade skates are allowed on the ice.
  • Layered dressing is recommended with Nylon pants, mittens or gloves to keep the little ones warm and dry. Knee and elbow pads are also recommended for beginner skaters.

Note: Skaters who are not wearing the proper helmet or dressed inappropriately will not be allowed on the ice.

Burlington Small fry skating is one of the best places in Burlington for your child to learn to ice skate. Be sure to register your child early as spaces fill up quickly. Our small fry ice skating has helped so many children take their first steps on to the ice.

Please read 2016-17 Small Fry Skating Handbook  for more information.

Mandatory Volunteer Responsibilities

The Executive and On Ice Leaders are all parent/caregiver volunteers who administer the program for the entire season and need additional support from the remaining parents/caregivers through mandatory volunteer duties assigned at registration.

  • All volunteers are required to complete 4-5 weeks (once a week) of volunteer duty per child enrolled in the program.  There are a variety of volunteer duties available including on-ice and off-ice positions.
  • All parents are required to be in the building during the skating session.

The following is a list of Executive positions which receive one free registration. Descriptions of each role can be found in our handbook If you are interested in a free registration for next year please contact us via the website or email smallfryskating@gmail.com.
